Je vois beaucoup d'installations de bacs \u00e0 liti\u00e8re et j'ai ramass\u00e9 ma part de liti\u00e8res. Parfois, je constate que les chats que j'observe ne sont pas tr\u00e8s dou\u00e9s pour utiliser la liti\u00e8re. Je propose des suggestions que j'esp\u00e8re utiles, mais je ne suis pas comportementaliste animalier. En g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, les id\u00e9es que j'ai sugg\u00e9r\u00e9es comprennent l'utilisation d'un bac \u00e0 liti\u00e8re \u00e0 bords bas, de sorte qu'un chat \u00e2g\u00e9 puisse entrer et sortir plus facilement du bac. J'avais quatre emplois diff\u00e9rents et je ne pensais pas pouvoir subvenir financi\u00e8rement aux besoins de deux chats, ni avoir assez d'espace pour un chat, et encore moins pour deux. Les deux chats \u00e9taient au refuge depuis environ cinq mois et ils voulaient les adopter ensemble. Ethel \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s calme lorsque je lui ai rendu visite, mais je n'avais aucune exp\u00e9rience des chats \u00e0 ce moment-l\u00e0. Je ne savais pas ce que je cherchais, et il n'\u00e9tait pas urgent pour moi d'avoir un chat. Je suis donc partie. Un peu plus tard, j'ai re\u00e7u un appel. Lucy avait \u00e9t\u00e9 adopt\u00e9e toute seule, et la petite Ethel \u00e9tait encore au refuge, pleurant pour elle. Je me suis donc rendue au refuge et j'ai ramen\u00e9 Ethel \u00e0 la maison.<\/p>\n

Depuis, Ethel a consid\u00e9rablement ralenti. Elle aimait dormir sur le lit avec moi (et donc me r\u00e9veiller le matin), mais ce n'est plus le cas \u00e0 cause de l'arthrite. J'esp\u00e9rais qu'elle pourrait utiliser le grand tabouret en bois Ikea que j'avais achet\u00e9 pour notre tout-petit, mais elle ne l'aime pas. Elle passe environ 23,5 heures par jour recroquevill\u00e9e sur son coussin chauffant pour animaux de compagnie, sous le tableau noir de ma fille. Avant, elle se couchait contre la plinthe chauffante, mais un jour, j'ai remarqu\u00e9 une br\u00fblure sur son flanc, et sa fourrure n'a toujours pas repouss\u00e9 \u00e0 cet endroit. Heureusement, elle pr\u00e9f\u00e8re l'oreiller chauffant.<\/p>\n

Il y a un mois ou deux, Ethel a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 passer par-dessus le c\u00f4t\u00e9 du bac \u00e0 liti\u00e8re. J'ai donc achet\u00e9 un nouveau bac \u00e0 liti\u00e8re un peu plus grand et avec des c\u00f4t\u00e9s plus bas pour qu'elle puisse y entrer et en sortir plus facilement. J'ai mis un petit prot\u00e8ge-matelas de rechange sous le bac, ainsi qu'une vieille serviette, qui semblaient tous deux \u00eatre constamment en train d'\u00eatre lav\u00e9s. J'essayais d'\u00e9viter d'utiliser des tapis d'entra\u00eenement pour chiots pour tapisser le sol, pour des raisons environnementales et financi\u00e8res. Mais je ne pense plus que le prot\u00e8ge-matelas et la serviette soient une bonne option, car l'urine de chat peut \u00eatre difficile \u00e0 enlever du tissu, malgr\u00e9 un rin\u00e7age au vinaigre pour neutraliser l'odeur, et cela arrive trop souvent pour que je puisse continuer \u00e0 le faire. En tant que m\u00e8re et gardienne professionnelle d'animaux, je fais d\u00e9j\u00e0 beaucoup de lessive.<\/p>\n

Elle a continu\u00e9 \u00e0 aller sur les c\u00f4t\u00e9s de la liti\u00e8re environ 25% du temps. J'ai essay\u00e9 quelque chose que j'avais lu concernant les bacs \u00e0 liti\u00e8re pour les chats \u00e2g\u00e9s, et je lui ai achet\u00e9 un grand plateau de service en plastique de type restaurant. Il n'y a rien de plus bas pour un bac \u00e0 liti\u00e8re. De plus, il est assez grand pour qu'elle puisse se retourner. J'ai \u00e9tal\u00e9 une couche de liti\u00e8re et j'ai observ\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Malheureusement, cela ne fonctionne pas. Elle continue d'aller tout pr\u00e8s des bords, ou juste au-dessus. Et la liti\u00e8re n'absorbe pas aussi bien les odeurs, puisqu'elle est moins \u00e9paisse. Et je commence \u00e0 utiliser les coussins d'apprentissage pour chiots pour tapisser la zone afin de prot\u00e9ger le parquet.<\/p>\n

Je dois envisager d'autres options. La liti\u00e8re agglom\u00e9rante \u00e0 base de copeaux de bois que j'utilise, Feline Fresh, est d\u00e9j\u00e0 l'une des plus douces du march\u00e9. Je pourrais essayer d'acheter une grande poubelle en plastique et de d\u00e9couper une entr\u00e9e sur un c\u00f4t\u00e9. Ainsi, l'entr\u00e9e sera basse, mais la liti\u00e8re sera contenue et les c\u00f4t\u00e9s hauts pourront d\u00e9courager la sortie de la bo\u00eete. Je ne l'ai pas surprise en train d'utiliser le bac \u00e0 liti\u00e8re comme elle le fait depuis un certain temps ; on m'a sugg\u00e9r\u00e9 d'installer une cam\u00e9ra activ\u00e9e par le mouvement pour observer la fa\u00e7on dont elle utilise le bac \u00e0 liti\u00e8re.<\/p>\n
